The Youth Employability Programme (YEP): Licence to Work is designed to respond to business and industry concerns that young people may not be developing the employability skills – also called ‘soft skills’, needed to succeed in the workplace.

YEP: Licence to Work provides learning activities to build these seven competencies

  • Positive Attitude
  • Communication
  • Teamwork
  • Self-management
  • Willingness to Learn
  • Thinking skills (problem solving and decision making)
  • Resilience

The young people apply these classroom learnings to their Work Experience.  Local businesses provide authentic work experience where young people can learn new skills, be part of a team giving them an introduction to the world of work.

Another important aspect of the programme is encouraging our young people to be connected to their community.  Each group completes a project that will directly enhance their community.

Each young person is assessed throughout the programme to record and authenticate their classroom, volunteer and workplace environments.

Are you a young person who would like some help entering the world of work?

Locations: Wainuiomata and Taita

Duration: 14 Weeks
