Volunteer mentor drivers
Make a difference in your community
We need volunteer mentor drivers to help Road Ready Rangatahi to gain their driving licence. Our volunteer drivers support our rangatahi to develop confidence, independence, and increase their employment opportunities.
Volunteers need to be patient and confident drivers, aged 25+. You will be encouraging and supportive with good observation skills. You must have held a full NZ driving licence for at least two years and have a good understanding of the road code.
To be eligible to become a driving mentor with Youth inspire you must:
Be over 25 years old
Held a full licence for 2 years +
Be a patient, confident driver, and able to give clear instructions
Be available to teach 2 x 1hr lessons per week – these times can fit around your schedule
Youth Inspire will provide driving school volunteer mentors with:
Comprehensive theory training session (2 hours) and in-car training using a qualified driving instructor (1 hour)
An automatic hybrid vehicle to teach in
Quarterly events to support mentors, update road code knowledge, ask any questions, and feel part of a wider team
We have a car in Taitā and another in Wainuiomata so mentors can teach from whichever is a more convenient location for them.
